From the moment they moved into their Newton home, Ann and Roger Cogswell knew they could count on having the best of care close by.
For five decades, Newton-Wellesley has been their community hospital. It has given them ready access to everything from primary care to top-notch medical specialists within the Mass General Brigham system.
When they have needed it most, the hospital has been there for them. Ann points to her own wonderful orthopedic care as one of things for which she’s most grateful. Years ago, when a life-threatening illness caused Roger to need ICU care, “the superb treatment there undoubtedly helped to save my life.”
“We were raised to give back, not to just take,” they reflect.
After loyally giving to the NWH Fund for years, they sought a more lasting way to express their gratitude. By funding a charitable remainder unitrust with appreciated stock, they met both their philanthropic goals and tax and income needs. Along with receiving a charitable deduction in the year of their donation, they will receive yearly income for the rest of their lives.
Most importantly, they say, “It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that we can benefit so many other patients.” By sharing their story, they hope other families will follow their lead.
