Meredith Scott will be forever grateful to Newton-Wellesley. It’s been a source of lifelong—and, for her dad, life-saving—care and comfort. Remembering the hospital in her will is the perfect way to honor a deep, ongoing family connection.

She’ll always remember how, after her parents retired to Cape Cod, they still drove to the hospital for all their health needs, including her father’s many surgeries.

Their devotion proved prescient in 2009, when her dad had a rare allergic reaction while in an operating room, awaiting surgery. With her fast action, “Dr. Mary Long, his anesthesiologist, literally saved my father’s life,” Meredith attests.

Meredith will never forget the expertise and compassion of the team. Her father trusted them with his care for the rest of his life. “Each year on the anniversary of that unforgettable day, he sent Dr. Long an email, thanking her for saving his life,” says Meredith. “She always replied the same day.”

After her father’s passing, Meredith wanted to show her appreciation for Newton-Wellesley and decided to make a bequest, based on a percentage of her estate.

“My family have always been planners,” Meredith says. No matter one’s age or means, “I believe we should all think about where our money will go.”

“You’re never too young to do an estate plan,” she notes. Once she did, “I was full of gratitude.
